Local Attractions

Field House Campsite in Gods own County, East Yorkshire has a multitude of places to visit from the undulating hills and valleys of the Yorkshire Wolds to the bracing sea air of the heritage coast. At its heart lies a serene landscape of swirling grasslands, medieval towns and manor houses with the cities of Hull of York where trendy bars and cafés rub shoulders with traditional museums and art galleries are both a short drive away.

Cycle

Surrounded by quiet country lanes and bridlepaths, Field House is perfectly situated to be explored by bicycle. Conveniently placed along the Coast to Coast Way of the Roses, Field House is an ideal pit stop. Other fabulous local routes can be explored with the help of The Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route which offers a great collection of wonderful rides.

Here’s what Dixe Wills, travel writer for the Guardian, wrote about the countryside between Huggate and Tibthorpe, where Field House Campsite and Coffee Barn lies, after completing the Way of the Roses for the first time:

And furthermore, I was ready for the question every cyclist gets asked about a long-distance ride: What’s your favourite bit? My answer? The four miles on the way to the village of Tibthorpe, about 20 miles from the east coast: huge skies, an empty road beneath my wheels and the sylvan countryside below melting away in the summer haze. I’m ashamed to say I threw my arms out wide and, coming over all Leonardo DiCaprio, shouted out, “I’m the king of the wold”. Which just goes to show that country air may not be so good for you after all.

Walk

With expansive views and big skies, there are many wonderful walks on our doorstep. The Wold Rangers Way is a fabulous 44 mile circular route which can be accessed directly from our site. Nestled between The Yorkshire Wolds Way, The Chalkland Way & Minster Way, Field House is an ideal base to explore these iconic routes. An ever increasing collection of tried and tested local dog friendly walks, with handy hints can be found here thanks to Mrs. M and her dog Bill as together they have been exploring the wolds. There are maps inside the coffee barn with detailed routes planned out for walks varying from 2.5 miles to just over 9 miles.

The Yorkshire Coast

The Yorkshire Coast has something to offer all tastes; whether you want peace and solitude, walks along the miles of golden sandy beaches, invigorating adventure or merely the chance to relax and explore the many charming Yorkshire Coast towns, villages and beautiful countryside.

At the heart of the UK’s largest seabird colony, Bempton Cliffs is one the country’s top wildlife spectacles with nearly half a million seabirds swooping, soaring and screeching around towering chalk cliffs on the spectacular Yorkshire coast.

For water fun with a difference North Yorkshire Water Park or Allerthorpe Lake are both a short drive away.

Stately Homes

Sledmere House & Gardens and Burton Agnes Hall are both a short drive away. Both have wonderful grounds to explore and offer a cafe serving homemade local produce as well as gift shops. Castle Howard is a little further afield but can still be reached by car within 45 minutes.

The Wolds Inn at Huggate is approximately 3 miles away. The Star at North Dalton is approximately 6 miles away but there is a 3 mile direct walk from the site. The steeple from the church at South Dalton can be seen from the site where the Michelin starred The Pipe and Glass offers a fine menu. The Capital of the Wolds, Driffield has a good selection of eateries and is less than 7.5 miles away whilst the market towns of Beverley, Pocklington & Malton (Food Capital of Yorkshire) are all less than 20 miles by car.
